The Newport church of Christ

What to Expect When You Visit Us

Our gatherings are simple, but they are designed to draw all who attend closer to God.

Since our actions are governed by the Bible alone, our worship consists of those things that were a part of the worship in the first century church:

  • We sing (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16)

  • We preach the word of God (2 Tim. 4:2) so that those in attendance can hear the gospel (Gal. 1:6-9) and be instructed (2 Tim. 2:25) and edified (Eph. 4:12) that who hear may obey (Rom. 6:17; Luke 6:46).

  • We pray (1 Cor. 14:15; Eph. 5:20; 1 John 5:14).

  • We partake of the Lord's Supper (Matt. 26:26-29, 1 Cor. 11:23-24) every first day of every week (Acts 20:7).

  • We give of our means (2 Cor. 9:6-9) only on the first day of every week (1 Cor. 16:1-2).

We strive always to maintain the attitude of worshipping "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24).

At the close of every gathering, those who wish to obey the gospel (either to become a child of God or to be restored to the fellowship of the Christians here in Newport) are invited to step to the front and let their wishes be known.

NEVER is anyone singled out for ridicule or embarrassment.

In addition, you can expect to meet those who have a sincere respect for what the Word of God says. You will be encouraged to read the Bible for yourself to make sure that what is being taught is from the Word of God (Acts 17:11).

Won't you join us the next opportunity you get?
