July 24, 2010--Our sister in Christ, Mrs. Erma Nelson, passed from this life last Tuesday. Her funeral is this afternoon.

June 21, 2009--The local congregation (Newport) is having their gospel meeting July 5-9. Speakers will be men who grew up in the local area. We also noticed that the July 2009 issue of Truth Magazine contains an article by Connie Adams "My First Gospel Meeting", which was at the Newport church in 1950 when the brethren were gathering at the old Venola School House (down on the Nine Foot Road); this is from Connie's autobiography Echoes from the Nine Foot Road, which is available from the Truth's bookstore.

Sept. 15, 2008--Our speaker for Sept. 21 is Ray Spence (he's from the Morehead City congregation).

Aug. 24, 2008--James Clark is getting "burned out" doing the work of a local evangelist, so he's going to be taking off about a month or so to regroup. Bebe Israel, from the Cary congregation, will speak Aug. 24.Ed Lewis, from Wilmington, is scheduled to preach Aug. 31 and Sept. 14. Steve Pullam, who is also from Wilmington, will preach on Sept. 7.
